The IMTA has been the premier organization setting standards for Incident Command Positions since it rolled out its Interstate Incident Management Teams Qualification System in 2012. Always at the forefront of excellence in incident management, the association seeks to ensure a high degree of performance standards for all incident management personnel. This is why it only makes sense that IMTA has now become an option as a third-party certification solution for jurisdictions to utilize when choosing an entity to verify the qualifications of its incident management personnel.
The national standard for incident management is the adoption and use of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). The adoption of NIMS includes incorporating the principles of NIMS and the Incident Command System into the structure of emergency response preparedness, response, and recovery plans and procedures. IMTA will use NIMS and its National Qualification System as the baseline minimum standard, however, to ensure the AHIMTA Incident Management Certification System (AIMCS) is the gold standard of excellence in incident management, the certification requirements will be more stringent and harder to obtain than the baseline National Qualifications System (NQS).
