Intent of the L-580 Gettysburg Staff Ride Leadership Course

The Staff Ride immerses leaders in a unique technique for conveying leadership and furthers the professional development of senior-level leaders. During this Civil War era staff ride, students will study the decisions, actions, and communications of past leaders. Participants experience the Staff Ride as members of a Conference Group (built around an IMT) led by a Military Subject Matter Expert (SME), who provides historical insight into strategic leadership concepts and philosophies. Each Conference Group is also led by an Incident Management Conference Group Leader (CGL). The CGLs know the Staff Ride well and work alongside the Military SMEs to enhance your experience and connect it to the challenges today's incident management leaders face. Conference Groups are also joined by a Field Operator (FO), who brings a "boots on the ground" perspective. No prior knowledge of or interest in military history is required to have a rich and fulfilling experience. This is not a traditional training course.

Before the course, attendees will complete a list of required readings. During the course, you will navigate the Battlefield for two days. Selected attendees will receive the full week's schedule upon acceptance.
